Dog age calculator
Your dog's age in approximate human years. Dogs mature fast in their first two years, then age at a pace that depends on size.
A rough guide, not a medical measure: the first year counts as about 15 human years, the second adds about 9, and each year after adds about 4 to 7 depending on size. Breeds and individual dogs vary a lot. Your vet is the best judge of your dog's health at any age.
Why "times seven" is wrong
A one-year-old dog can usually have puppies of its own and is close to full size, which is nothing like a seven-year-old child. Dogs race through puppyhood and adolescence in their first two years, then slow down.
After that, size matters: small dogs tend to live longer, while large and giant breeds reach their senior years sooner. That's why the calculator asks for your dog's adult size.
